CALL FOR PAPERS
ARCHAEOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF NEW MEXICO ANNUAL MEETING
Hosted by the Grant County Archaeological Society
April 26-28, 2019, at the Murray Hotel, Silver City, NM
Papers related to the theme “Mimbres and Beyond: Archaeology of Southwest New Mexico and Connections to the Wider Region” are especially desirable, but papers on other archaeological or anthropological topics are also welcome. The people living in the Mimbres produced world-renowned pottery, but they did not live in isolation. There were networks for trade and cultural exchange throughout the Southwest. It is not only the Classic Mimbres period (A.D. 1000-1130) that holds a connection between the Mimbres Valley and surrounding areas. There were cultures here before, and there have been other cultures since. Jornada and other Mogollon cultures, the Hohokam, Ancestral Puebloan peoples, people from northern Mexico, and others may have influenced the culture of the people we call Mimbres. The Apache have called this region their homeland and continue to maintain connections here.
There will be a limit of 14 presentations of 20-minute duration during the day of Saturday, April 27, 2019.
